The Criterion Collection has just revealed their November releases that includes Malcolm X, The Power of the Dog, In the Mood for Love, Daisies, and The Infernal Affairs Trilogy.
First up is the 1966 Czech New Wave film Daisies from director Věra Chytilová arriving on Blu-ray November 1.
If the entire world is bad, why shouldn’t we be? Adopting this insolent attitude as their guiding philosophy, a pair of hedonistic young women (Ivana Karbanová and Jitka Cerhová), both named Marie, embark on a gleefully debauched odyssey of gluttony, giddy destruction, and antipatriarchal resistance, in which nothing is safe from their nihilistic pursuit of pleasure. But what happens when the fun is over? Matching her anarchic message with an equally radical aesthetic, director Věra Chytilová, with the close collaboration of cinematographer Jaroslav Kučera, unleashes an optical storm of fluctuating film stocks, kaleidoscopic montages, cartoonish stop-motion cutouts, and surreal costumes designed by Ester Krumbachová, who also cowrote the script. The result is Daisies, the most defiant provocation of the Czechoslovak New Wave, an exuberant call to rebellion aimed squarely at those who uphold authoritarian oppression in any form.

Also on November 1, Wong Kar Wai’s In the Mood for Love will be getting an upgrade to 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray.
Hong Kong, 1962: Chow Mo Wan (Tony Leung Chiu Wai) and Su Li Zhen (Maggie Cheung Man Yuk) move into neighboring apartments on the same day. Their encounters are formal and polite—until a discovery about their spouses creates an intimate bond between them. At once delicately mannered and visually extravagant, Wong Kar Wai’s In the Mood for Love is a masterful evocation of romantic longing and fleeting moments. With its aching sound¬track and exquisitely abstract cinematography by Christopher Doyle and Mark Lee Ping Bing, this film has been a major stylistic influence on the past two decades of cinema, and is a milestone in Wong’s redoubtable career.
DIRECTOR-APPROVED 4K UHD + BLU-RAY SPECIAL EDITION FEATURES
2000 • 98 minutes • Color • 5.1 surround • In Cantonese with English subtitles • 1.66:1 aspect ratio
On November 8, Jane Campion's western The Power of the Dog will be available on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray as well as Blu-ray.
Jane Campion returns to the kind of mythic frontier landscape—pulsating with both freedom and menace—that she previously traversed in The Piano in order to plumb the masculine psyche in The Power of the Dog, set against the desolate plains of 1920s Montana and adapted by the filmmaker from Thomas Savage’s novel. After a sensitive widow (Kirsten Dunst) and her enigmatic, fiercely loving son (Kodi Smit-Mcphee) move in with her gentle new husband (Jesse Plemons), a tense battle of wills plays out between them and his brutish brother (Benedict Cumberbatch), whose frightening volatility conceals a secret torment, and whose capacity for tenderness, once reawakened, may offer him redemption or destruction. Campion, who won an Academy Award for her direction here, charts the repressed desire and psychic violence coursing among these characters with the mesmerizing control of a master at the height of her powers.

2021 • 128 minutes • Color • Dolby Atmos/5.1 surround • 2.28:1 aspect ratio
The critically-acclaimed Hong Kong crime-drama triple feature The Infernal Affairs Trilogy arrives on Blu-ray on the 15th.
The Hong Kong crime drama was jolted to new life with the release of the Infernal Affairs trilogy, a bracing, explosively stylish critical and commercial triumph that introduced a dazzling level of narrative and thematic complexity to the genre with its gripping saga of two rival moles—played by superstars Tony Leung Chiu-wai and Andy Lau Tak-wah—who navigate slippery moral choices as they move between the intersecting territories of Hong Kong’s police force and its criminal underworld. Set during the uncertainty of the city-state’s handover from Britain to China and steeped in Buddhist philosophy, these ingeniously crafted tales of self-deception and betrayal mirror Hong Kong’s own fractured identity and the psychic schisms of life in a postcolonial purgatory.
DIRECTOR-APPROVED THREE-BLU-RAY SPECIAL EDITION FEATURES
Finally on the 22nd, Spike Lee's Malcolm X starring Denzel Washington will arrive on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray as well as standard Blu-ray format.
One of the most electrifying heroes of the twentieth century receives an appropriately sweeping screen biopic, rich in both historical insight and propulsive cinematic style, courtesy of visionary director Spike Lee. Built around an extraordinary performance from Denzel Washington, Malcolm X draws on the iconic civil rights leader’s autobiography to trace his journey of empowerment, from a childhood riven by white-supremacist violence to a life of petty crime to his conversion to Islam and rebirth as a fearless fighter for Black liberation, whose courage and eloquence inspired oppressed communities the world over. An epic of impeccable craft that was made with Lee’s closest creative collaborators and is buoyed by commanding performances from Delroy Lindo, Angela Bassett, Al Freeman Jr., and others, this is a passionate monument to a man whose life continues to serve as a model of principled resistance.
DIRECTOR-APPROVED TWO-BLU-RAY SPECIAL EDITION FEATURES
1992 • 201 minutes • Color/Black & White • 5.1 surround • 1.85:1 aspect ratio
As always, we will update the website as soon as the preorders for all of these releases are posted.
The 1999 crime-drama starring Terence Stamp, Lesley Ann Warren, Luis Guzman, Barry Newman, and Peter Fonda is getting a 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray + Digital SteelBook exclusively at Best Buy on October 11.
Oscar® nominees Terence Stamp (Billy Budd), Lesley Ann Warren (Victor/Victoria), and Peter Fonda (Ulee’s Gold) team up with the director of Out of Sight and Sex, Lies, and Videotape for this critically acclaimed thriller that Newsday called “a lean and mean treat for savvy action lovers.” British ex-con Wilson (Terence Stamp) arrives in Los Angeles to investigate the mystery of his daughter’s “accidental” death. His prime suspect, the wealthy, heavily guarded music promoter Terry Valentine (Peter Fonda), is no easy target. Propelled into an increasingly brutal search for truth, Wilson, with single-mindedness and terrifying precision, moves unstoppably toward revenge.
The 4K UHD Blu-ray edition does not appear to include Dolby Atmos but will have Dolby Vision. Bonus features include two audio commentaries and an isolated score track.

Ride into, the Danger Zone
With a monumental post-pandemic box office run, Tom Cruise scores the biggest film of his career - and it's still pulling in amazing bucks in theaters. After toppling Titanic for the number 7 spot on the all-time Highest-Grossing films in the U.S. (not adjusted for inflation), Top Gun: Maverick has a real shot at taking out Avengers: Infinity War and possibly even Black Panther in the 6th and 5th positions respectively.
After a long wait, fans will finally be able to bring this amazing sequel home. Since it'll drop in time for Thanksgiving, you'll be able to demo your A/V rig with what is sure to be a pinnacle release on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray. The 4K set will sport Dolby Vision HDR with Atmos audio so crank it LOUD. The press release didn't stipulate aspect ratio but we're hoping it holds to something close to what we got with IMAX.
As we learn more about these releases - that aspect ratio is the main question mark for a lot of folks, we'll fill in the gaps as best we can. Until then, get those pre-orders in! Your pre-orders really do go a long way towards keeping our little operation up and running - so thank you.

Falling behind on movie viewing? Buying titles at a faster pace than watching them, the struggle is real. From limited editions to just wanting to make sure I get a slip cover, those are just a couple of factors at play. When did you fall behind and why?
Welcome to Volume 3 Episode 13 of our weekly release guide. A look at the highlights of what's coming to disc this week, as well as a look at announcements from last week.
Kicking off the new releases category, <insert studio name> did it again, they announced a major release with a street date less than ten days out. In this case, Universal announced Jurassic World: Dominion on the 9th, with a street date of the 16th. Retailers received copies this past week and all over the net people were posting photos. This film is supposed to be the 'conclusion' of the Jurassic era, I guess til they make another one. Options are not as wide as expected. With just the standard 4K, the 4K SteelBook, the 6 movie collection and the 6 movie limited edition collection, which includes a Velociraptor statue, I was sort of hoping for a 6 movie SteelBook collection with cover arts similar to the single SteelBook we get this week. Call me shocked to NOT see any retailer exclusives here.
On to Catalog titles. OK, Scream Factory has a big week this week with a handful of titles and options. Chucky slashes his way to 4K with Child's Play, available as a standard edition and as a Best Buy Exclusive SteelBook, Child's Play 2 and Child's Play 3.
Remember The Wolverines! Red Dawn (1984) also debuts to 4K disc with a standard edition and a Best Buy Exclusive SteelBook.
Sony releases Heavy Metal to a standard 4K edition, minus the blu-ray of Heavy Metal 2000.
Mentioned a few weeks ago, apparently delayed with no notice, Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar is on track for Tuesday release. No slipcovers thus far on any of the 4K upgrade releases from them, but it we have double dipped, using the previous cover is tempting.
Next week, two lycanthropic options, some of Stallone's greatest, 'Baby' gets a doubple-dip, Kubrick and some martial arts.
A slow(ish) week for blu-ray releases. But before we go over the highlights, let's list any blu-ray counterparts first. Jurassic World: Dominion gets a standard release, as does the 6 movie collection, and just like the 4K, no retailer exclusive options.
Paramount Pictures has a little bit of comedy from their catalog this week, including a couple of titles that were pushed back without notice. Titles include The Back-Up Plan (reissue), Coneheads, Last Vegas (reissue), South Park: The Complete Twenty-Fourth Season, Stalag 17 (reissue), What Women Want and What's Eating Gilbert Grape.
Sticking with comedy, from Criterion Collection, two comedies, Daddy Longlegs and Frownland come to disc this week.
Sony Pictures is also getting in to the comedy game as well this week, Denise Calls Up comes via their 'Sony Pictures Classics' label. Hardly a comedy, Sniper: Rogue Mission also debuts to disc this week.
Another short notice title from Universal, the horror/thriller The Black Phone comes to blu-ray, with no 4K option. Sorry, going to ask, does Blumhouse have something against 4K disc? I realize The Purge franchise has 4K discs, but so many missed opportunities here with other titles.
Slow week for anime, just Mobile Suit Gundam SEED - Collection 2 and Welcome to Demon School, Iruma-kun (Season 1).
Honorable mention: Mostly because it seems like a heavy comedy week, Code Red is offering Don't Tell Her It's Me (The Boyfriend School) with Steve Guttenberg, Jami Gertz, Shelley Long. And from Kino Lorber, They Went That-A-Way & That-A-Way with Tim Conway.
Sony has announced that Columbia Classics 4K Ultra HD Collection: Volume 3 will be coming in Septe.... just kidding, initial listings showed September 20th but the official announcement states October 25th. Check out the specs, it's another killer set. All 6 films appear to have Dolby Vision and most of them also have new Atmos mixes.
Arrow Video has announced Shawscope Volume Two for a November 22nd street date.
Kino Lorber has announced Film Noir: The Dark Side of Cinema XII, Film Noir: The Dark Side of Cinema XIII, Film Noir: The Dark Side of Cinema XIV and Film Noir: The Dark Side of Cinema XV. Final details and order link for Dressed to Kill 4K is also available now.
Warner Bros has announced Sweet Tooth: The Complete First Season for blu-ray on October 11th and Mortal Kombat Legends: Snow Blind to 4K and blu-ray on the 11th as well. From what I can read about Mortal Kombat, this film is the conclusion to the series.
Which titles are you buying this week? Which ones are on your wishlist, be it to buy as an impulse buy or to wait for the right price?
Six more acclaimed films will be bundled together in the third limited-edition set this October 25. The films included are: IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT, FROM HERE TO ETERNITY, TO SIR, WITH LOVE, THE LAST PICTURE SHOW, ANNIE and AS GOOD AS IT GETS.
The films will be presented in 4K Dolby Vision with High Dynamic Range and four will include a Dolby Atmos soundtrack. This set also includes an extensive hardbound 80-page book "featuring in-depth sections about the making of each film within the set via six all-new incisive essays from renowned writers—including a special exclusive essay from award-winning writer/director James L. Brooks on his 1997 classic, AS GOOD AS IT GETS!"
Columbia Classics 4K Ultra HD Collection: Volume 3
Each film in the set comes with numerous supplements -- many of which are new or have been unavailable for decades. See the full press release for the Columbia Classics 4K Ultra HD Collection: Volume 3 gift set included below.

Ever had one of those weeks where you are at a loss for words? Maybe it's the heat and humidity. Don't know about you, but I can't immerse into a good movie when it's like this, the background noise of the AC turning on and off is too distracting for me to truly enjoy the experience.
Welcome to Volume 3 Episode 12 of our weekly release guide. A look at the highlights of what's coming to disc this week, as well as a look at announcements from last week.
The 4K disc category is manageable this month, but stay tuned for a rough one in September. This week there's are two New Releases.
First, from Paramount, Sonic The Hedgehog 2. This one's available as a standard edition and as a Best Buy Exclusive SteelBook. I cannot remember the last Paramount SteelBook that was a Best Buy Exclusive, but here we are.
Speaking of "it's been awhile," BBC has the next David Attenborough nature documentary The Green Planet coming to disc this week. Unlike previous ones though, no SteelBook this time.
On to catalog titles next. First we get Michael Mann's Crime/Thriller masterpiece Heat. This one is available as a standard edition and as a SteelBook. Check out the review by clicking the standard edition's link.
Drive (1997) comes via 88 Films. I get this one and the more recent film of the same title confused all the time. Both are good films if I remember right, but I am familiar with the other one with Ryan Gosling. Delayed to 9/13.
If you've been waiting for a 4K release of Event Horizon, your wait is over. This one is only available as a SteelBook at this time, that doesn't offend me any. Bryan has a review up, do check it out, then use our link to purchase it.
And lastly, a 4K upgrade of Doom comes to us via Universal Pictures.
Next week, Chucky gets a makeover, the wolverines strike back and more.
What do we do every week at the start of this section? You got it, let's list the blu-ray counterparts of the above releases before proceeding. And this week, we only have Sonic The Hedgehog 2 to contend with, which is available as a Walmart exclusive edition as well, which, in my opinion is a better cover. There is also a 2-film collection if you somehow missed the first one.
Under the Paramount Presents label, the comedy/musical Back to the Beach.
From Warner Bros, Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts, a retrospective look back documentary.
Still in the documentary mode, Sony Pictures this week has Jazz Fest: A New Orleans Story starring all sort of talent you may have heard of, check it out! For an animated comedy / adventure, Vivo comes to blu-ray this week.
LionsGate's entry this week in the action thriller category is titled Hot Seat. In the horror category, a film with a short title, Men. From partner label Vertical Entertainment, action/thriller Last Seen Alive.
Director David Cronenberg is still keeping busy, his latest title Crimes of the Future comes via little known label Decal - Neon.
Another martial arts release from 88 Films this week, described as 'one of Quentin Tarantino's favourite movies', Flying Guillotine 2.
Anime highlights include Combatants Will Be Dispatched! - The Complete Season, which is available as a standard edittion and a limited edition, The Detective Is Already Dead - The Complete Season, Short Peace and Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon - Season 1, Part 2, which is available as a standard editon and as a limited edition.
Honorable Mention: Sandpiper Pictures continues to reissue the Twilight Time Catalog and this week's features are Alexander the Great (1956), Equus, Solomon and Sheba and State of Grace.
Next week there's a slight reprieve in volume for this category, but there are still a few goodies.
I don't know about you, but if I was a movie studio and I saw that September was very crowded for releases, I would likely push any new announcements to October or later. With that being said...
Warner Bros has announced the 2022 movie Elvis will be released to 4K and blu-ray on September 13th.
BFI will be releasing Watership Down to 4K disc on October 24th in the UK. It's a roll of the dice as to whether he US market will get it any time soon, and if we do, it will probably not contain any swag like the UK editions of so many releases do.
Shout Factory's October line up is taking shape, so far among their various labels we will be seeing Bad Santa 2, Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure 4K, The Deer King, Kingslayer, The Halloween 4K Collection (1995-2002), The Last Detail 4K, Ocean Waves, The Possessed (2021), The Return Of The Living Dead 4K, A Shaun The Sheep Movie: Farmageddon, A Silent Voice [Steelbook], Three Wishes For Cinderella, When Marnie Was There and When Marnie Was There [SteelBook].
Which titles are you buying this week? Which ones are on your wishlist, be it to buy as an impulse buy or to wait for the right price?
Cus they are the Aqua Teens and the homies say ho and the girlies wanna scream, they're coming to 4k Ultra HD Blu-ray and Blu-ray in an all-new big-screen cinematic adventure... but on the small screen at your home.
We don't know a whole lot yet about his new feature-length adventure of Master Shake, Frylock, and Meatwad - and hopefully Carl and any number of favorite characters, but it should be hilarious! We also don't have full specs for audio and HDR, we've reached out for more info there and will offer that up as soon as we know more. This will be on Blu-ray but we don't have the artwork for that edition yet. Both have listings on Amazon, but aren't yet up for pre-order when they are we'll update our listings ASAP.

The biopic drama starring Austin Butler (“The Dead Don’t Die,” “Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood”) and Tom Hanks arrives on digital August 9th with physical media (4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD) hitting stores on September 13.
A thoroughly cinematic drama, Elvis’s (Austin Butler) story is seen through the prism of his complicated relationship with his enigmatic manager, Colonel Tom Parker (Tom Hanks). As told by Parker, the film delves into the complex dynamic between the two spanning over 20 years, from Presley’s rise to fame to his unprecedented stardom, against the backdrop of the evolving cultural landscape and loss of innocence in America. Central to that journey is one of the significant and influential people in Elvis’s life, Priscilla Presley (Olivia DeJonge).
Both the Blu-ray and the 4K UHD packages include several featurettes and a lyric video as well as a Dolby Atmos soundtrack.

Just because it's hot outside doesn't mean you can't keep cool and comfortable inside adding some new releases and fan favorites to your 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Collection!
Not that long ago August used to be a relatively slow month for new releases. Then the pandemic hit and completely upended the game. Now we're getting a wide swath of recent theatrical releases as well as a great selection of fan favorites coming to 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray. We used to need these few weeks at the end of summer to recharge and gear up for fall and the holidays, now there's no rest for the weary - and there's no respite for your wallet! From family-friendly flicks to creepy science fiction and horror flicks, there's something for every collector to close out summer.
And that is everything that's getting released stateside on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray for August 2022. Right now all of these dates are set and firm, but it's always possible for a last-minute schedule change. If/when that happens we'll update our listings as soon as we can. We're going to do our best to dig through all of these and crank out reviews ASAP.
As always - thanks again for your pre-orders! They really do go a long way towards keeping our little operation up and running.
Happy collecting!
While the kiddos are getting dressed up and out begging for candy from total strangers, you can hunker in your home theater and enjoy four more fan-favorite fright flicks on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray from Scream Factory!
With the Halloween season coming in fast, we were waiting for Scream Factory to make a few announcements. THey already had a stacked September with Army of Darkness, Evil Dead (2013), John Carpenter's The Fog, and Tobe Hooper's The Funhouse all coming to 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray. After some rumors and early postings on various retailer websites, Scream Factory now has their October horror titles up for pre-order on the Shout! Store.
Here's what's digging up out of its grave and into your collection...
This is actually the title we know the least about right now. Scream Factory already unleashed a pretty terrific Collector's Edition Blu-ray of Return of the Living Dead so we imagine most if not all of those features and extras will port over. Will there be Atmos? Will the original mono include all of the songs? We don't know yet. Their listing on their shop is pretty sparse. And because Shout/Scream hasn't yet thrown out a wide official announcement, we can only speculate HDR grade at this point but don't be surprised about Dolby Vision. Return of the Living Dead is slated to drop on October 18th - a Limited Edition with four enamel pins and a poster is up for Pre-order too.
Coming October 4th, 2022 - This is a large three-film, eight-disc set. Why a 4K Halloween box set, now but not for the first five films? you might ask. Well, consider the franchise entries in this set... Per the Shout! Store listing, we'll be getting Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers (Theatrical and Producers Cut in 4K!), Halloween: H20 20 Years Later, and Halloween: Resurrection. Like Return of the Living Dead above, we know very little about this set in terms of specs and bonus features, but we do know from the packaging below, each film will come with its own case and slipcover in a similar design as the Halloween 1-5 sets last year so presumably there'll also be alternate cover art and we do expect bonus features not seen since the old 10-Film Deluxe franchise collection to make an appearance too. We also can see that The Curse of Michael Myers is going to be a 4-disc set, so probably a 4K UHD disc and a Blu-ray for each cut of the film instead of rolling with seamless branching. This set is now up for pre-order from Shout!
HALLOWEEN: THE CURSE OF MICHAEL MYERS (1.85:1, DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 & Stereo, 88 min. (Theatrical Cut), 95 min. (Producer's Cut))
FEATURING BOTH THE THEATRICAL CUT AND PRODUCER'S CUT IN 4K ULTRA HIGH DEFINITION
In a single horrifying night, Michael Myers' reign of terror changed Halloween forever! Now, six years after he was presumed dead in a fire, Michael has returned to kill again – and this time there's no escape! As his fury builds to a spine-tingling climax, the longhidden secrets of the screen's most maniacal murderer are shockingly revealed. Donald Pleasence (Halloween), Paul Rudd (Anchorman: The Legend Of Ron Burgundy, Ant-Man), Marianne Hagan (Stake Land) and Mitchell Ryan (Lethal Weapon) star.
HALLOWEEN H20: TWENTY YEARS LATER (2.35:1, DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 & Stereo, 86 min.)
Now the headmistress of a private school, Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) is still struggling with the horrifying, 20-year-old memories of the maniacal killer Michael Myers when he suddenly appears again with a vengeance! And this Halloween, Laurie's rebellious son (Josh Hartnett, 30 Days Of Night), his girlfriend (Michelle Williams, Venom), and their friends will become Michael's newest victims unless Laurie can conquer her fears and put evil in its place once and for all. LL Cool J (NCIS: Los Angeles), Joseph Gordon-Levitt (The Dark Knight Rises, Inception), Nancy Stephens (Halloween) and Janet Leigh (Psycho, The Fog) also star.
HALLOWEEN: RESURRECTION (2.35:1, DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 & Stereo, 94 min.)
The reality programmers at DangerTainment have selected Rudy (Sean Patrick Thomas, Dracula 2000), Bill (Thomas Ian Nicholas, American Pie), and a group of thrill-seeking teenagers to spend one fun-filled night in the childhood home of serial killer Michael Myers. But the planned live broadcast turns deadly when their evening of excitement becomes a night of horror as Michael himself decides to crash the party. Halloween: Resurrection also stars Bianca Kajlich (Bring It On), Katee Sackhoff (Riddick, Battlestar Galactica), Busta Rhymes (Narc), and Tyra Banks, along with a special appearance by Jamie Lee Curtis.
And for now, that's all the news that's fit to print! As Shout!/Scream Factory officially announces these and pumps out some more details, we'll update our listings
